The Village Shul (Aish HaTorah)
Toronto ON

Bronzine scrim, silk, laces, ribbons
Machine appliqué
123 cm. radius octagon (4')
Metal work by James Maxwel
l

Custom metal work supports the chuppah from the eight bimah poles. The glass fixtures make the domed canopy appear like a radiant kippah.

A garden bower hovers over the couple; each section is appliquéed with a large flower inspired by the Song of Songs.

Although quite contemporary the chuppah's burnished colours and integration with the other bimah fabrics (see Village Shul ark textiles) caused one congregant to exclaim, "It looks like it's always been here!"
